Coating and refurbishment of extrusion flat dies
Union Converting, a company of Union Officine Meccaniche s.p.a. Group, specialized in the coating and maintenance of flat dies, offers its customers a complete refurbishment service of any type of extrusion flat die.
Professional repair and regeneration
Thanks to a team with over thirty years of experience, we are able to repair the most common defects found after long use, also offering the possibility of:
• Super finishing of the exit lips, reaching roughness of Ra > 0.01 µ
• Chromium polishing with roughness Ra 0.04 – 0.08 µ
• Chromium thickness from 20 to 180 µ
Study of distributions channels and simulation
For repairs that require modifications to the flat die, or for new constructions, we can study and simulate the distribution channels using the most modern machine tools, thus optimizing flow and pressure.
Adjustment systems
It is possible to restore any type of flexible lips adjustment system, both manual and automatic, using original spare parts or those produced by us.
On-site maintainance
A team of highly specialized technicians can carry out opening and cleaning operations of flat dies directly at the customer’s premises.
Spare parts and tools
We supply all the spare parts and tools necessary for correct use and regular maintenance of extrusion flat dies, so as to improve their efficiency and extend their life cycle.
Final inspection
After each intervention, in particular when chrome surfaces are repaired or regenerated, we carry out a thorough check to verify the quality of the work carried out.

UNION is constantly committed to developing of new extrusion technologies, today more than ever with particular attention to the environment, focusing on improving the energy efficiency of its equipment and the reuse of post-consumer plastics, giving them a new and significant added value.
The use of plastic is essential, but disposing it in the environment constitutes the first cause of environmental degradation, together with its non-reuse: the solution is to use non-virgin material as much as possible, recovering the one already in circulation, thus avoiding to put new material in the market, and consequently in the environment.
For this reason, some of our solutions are focused on solving these problems. Among the specific applications we mention:
- High performance recycling lines for different types of material
- Extrusion lines for a wide range of products from recycled materials
- Innovative technology for the production of EPS microgranules from waste material
In this context, the challenges that scientific research is called to face are also linked to the increasingly stringent regulations on food safety. Our lines are able to satisfy all the legal requirements set for the use of plastics for food contact, either for monolayer sheet from 100% recycled material (EFSA-FDA) or for multilayer sheet in ABA structure (GMP).
